Outstanding Alumni of PPGCEM in Recent Quadrennials

Quadrennium 2021-2024

Cátia Liane Ucker: Completed her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at PPGCEM/UFPel in 2022, undertaking a sandwich period at Universität Duisburg-Essen with a DAAD scholarship. Her academic performance was recognized with an honorable mention in the 2023 CAPES Thesis Award in the Materials area, highlighting the excellence of her research. During her Ph.D. and as an alumna until 2024, she published 15 scientific articles, demonstrating her remarkable academic writing skills and impact in research and innovation.

Guilherme Kurz Maron: Earned his Ph.D. from PPGCEM/UFPel in 2021, and currently serves as an Industrial Technological Development Fellow (DTI-A), with extensive experience in research, teaching, and innovation. His work focuses on the development of materials for batteries, supercapacitors, and (bio)sensors. With over 10 years of experience in carbon nanostructures and sustainable materials, he has published 20 scientific articles in the past four years, reinforcing his position as a rising researcher in the field of electrochemistry and technological innovation.

Carlomagno Gonzalez Castelli: Completed his master’s degree at PPGCEM/UFPel in 2023 and is currently a professor at the Universidad Tecnológica del Uruguay. His academic journey continues in the program as a Ph.D. student, integrating an internationalization project in collaboration with universities in the Pampa Biome. His academic development highlights PPGCEM’s contribution to training researchers with international outreach and promoting scientific cooperation between Brazil and Uruguay.

Quadrennium 2016-2020

Bruno Muller Vieira: Completed his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at PPGCEM/UFPel in 2017 and, during his training, joined UFPel as a professor in 2016. Over the past years, he has held academic management positions, including serving as director of the Engineering Center. His work has been essential for institutional development and the training of new researchers. The experience gained at PPGCEM was fundamental to his career, providing technical and strategic knowledge applied to both research and academic administration.

Camila Monteiro Cholant: Earned her Ph.D. from PPGCEM/UFPel in 2018, worked as a substitute professor at CDTec/UFPel in 2019, and later as a PNPD/CAPES postdoctoral researcher at PPGCEM. She is currently a DTI-A fellow at INCT Circularidade, significantly contributing to LABPMat/UFPel, where she also teaches courses. Over the past four years, she has published 10 scientific articles, demonstrating her growing academic output. Her training at PPGCEM was essential for her consolidation as a researcher and professor.

Andrey Pereira Acosta: Completed his master’s degree at PPGCEM/UFPel in 2020 and continued his Ph.D. at UFRGS. Throughout his career, he has published 47 articles in collaboration with PPGCEM professors, evidencing his productivity and research impact. He is currently an assistant professor at UFPR, working in the Graduate Programs in Materials and Forest Engineering. His training at PPGCEM was crucial for his academic growth and entry into teaching and research at a national level.

Quadrennium 2011-2015

Bruno Dufau Mattos: Enrolled in the master’s program on 03/13/2012 and graduated on 01/16/2014, Bruno Dufau Mattos established his career as an internationally renowned researcher. He is currently the lead researcher of the Bio-based Colloids and Materials (BiCMat) group at Aalto University, Finland. His journey includes internationalization internships at the University of the Basque Country, Spain, and Aalto University, where he later settled professionally. Over the past five years, he has maintained active collaboration with PPGCEM professors, resulting in several joint publications, including an article in the prestigious Advanced Materials (IF 32). In 2024, he, along with Professor Dr. André Luiz Missio, secured funding from the CNPq ConhecBrasil-REDES call, aiming to bring research institutions closer and strengthen PPGCEM’s internationalization.

Pedro Henrique Gonzalez de Cademartori: Enrolled in the master’s program in 2011 and graduated in 2012, Pedro Henrique Gonzalez de Cademartori became an assistant professor at the Department of Forestry Engineering and Technology (DETF) at the Federal University of Paraná. Beyond his impact on academic training, Pedro served as Director of UFPR’s Innovation Agency / SPIn. At the end of 2024, in partnership with Professors Dr. André Luiz Missio and Dr. Bruno Dufau Mattos, he secured funding from the CNPq ConhecBrasil-REDES call, further strengthening scientific collaboration networks. In the last quadrennium, he published more than five high-impact articles with PPGCEM faculty, demonstrating the relevance of his training in the program.

Rafael de Ávila Delucis: Completed his master’s in Materials Science and Engineering at PPGCEM/UFPel in 2014 and his Ph.D. at UFRGS in 2018. After completing his training, he returned to UFPel as a permanent faculty member of PPGCEM and became a level 2 CNPq research productivity fellow. He stands out as one of the most productive researchers in the program, with 65 articles published in the past four years. His academic trajectory demonstrates the lasting impact of PPGCEM’s training, fostering the mentoring of new researchers and strengthening the program’s position in the national and international scientific landscape.
