Academic Calendar PPGS – 2025/1

Start of Classes and Orientation

Start Date: Classes for the 1/2025 semester will begin on March 10, 2025.

Welcome Meeting: On the first day of classes, we will hold a special meeting to welcome our Master’s and PhD students.

• 9:00 a.m.: Meeting with the PPGS Coordination.
• 10:00 a.m.: Introduction session for students and faculty.

Semester Structure

The semester will be divided into two parts:

1. From March 10 to March 28, 2025.
2. From April 22 to June 20, 2025.

Academic Break: Between March 29 and April 21, 2025.

Important Dates for Regular Students

Enrollment:

• Already enrolled students (Master’s 2024, PhD 2022/2023/2024): March 5, 2025 (until 5:00 p.m.).
• 2025 Incoming Students:
  • Master’s: March 6, 2025 (until 5:00 p.m.).
  • PhD: March 6, 2025 (until 5:00 p.m.).

How to enroll:

1. Access the COBALTO system with your personal account.
2. In the menu, click on Student > Registration > Graduate Enrollment Request.
3. Select the available courses and submit your choices.

Reminder:

• Your advisor must be informed of the selected courses.
• If you are not planning to take courses, please send an email to ppgs@ufpel.edu.br indicating your enrollment in the thesis or dissertation research activity.

Courses and Teaching Practicum

Mandatory Courses for 2025 Incoming Master’s Students:

• Sociological Theory I: Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m., Professor Attila Barbosa.
• Sociological Research Methodology: Mondays at 2:00 p.m., Professor William Soto.

Elective Courses (Master’s and PhD):

• Social Sciences Research with Quantitative Software: Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m., Professor Rodrigo Cantu.
• Advanced Seminar I: Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m., Professor Léo Peixoto.
• Topics in the Sociology of Morality: Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m., Professors Elaine Silveira Leite and Marciele Vasconcellos.
• Perspectives on Violence, Crime, and Politics in Latin America: Fridays at 2:00 p.m., Professor Simone Gomes.

Teaching Practicum:

• Interested students must send an email to ppgs@ufpel.edu.br between March 5 and March 6, 2025 (until 5:00 p.m.) indicating:
  • The course, day, and time of the practicum.
  • Other courses in which they intend to enroll.

For Special Students

Registration for Special Students: From January 20 to February 20, 2025.
Announcement of Accepted Students: From February 25, 2025 onward.
Online Enrollment: March 7, 2025 (until 5:00 p.m.).

Elective courses are also available for special students. For detailed information, please see the
