[ENG] A day to mark Latin American and Caribbean black women’s struggle

They are less than 5% of the student body in the onsite undergraduate programs, just over 3% in distance education programs, and nearly 1% attending graduate school. These are the figures that size the presence of black students at UFPel. July 25 was the date chosen to honor the struggle of Latin American and Caribbean black women. For this reason, from July 26 to 27, the seminar “Discussing July 25, what do I have to do with it?” was held at UFPel and promoted by the Center for Affirmative Actions, the Center for Gender Issues and the Office for Inclusion and Diversity. The event focused on five paramount themes related to women: education, violence against women, women’s mental health, black icons, and entrepreneurship.

[ENG] UFPel wins a first-ever award from CNPq

Last July 2018, during the 70th Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC) held in Maceio, Brazil, undergrad Cumputing Engineering student Iago Storch received the 15th Distinction Award of Introduction to Scientific and Technological Research given by the National Council for Scientifc and Technological Development (category: “Science Intern, CNPq Fellowship Program”; area: Natural Sciences and Engineering). It is the first time that a UFPel student wins such an award in the history of the prize. The student’s work awarded was  entitled “Dynamic Tile Partitioning Technique Aiming the Speedup Enhancement of the Video Coding Process According to the HEVC Standard.” The work was developed within the Video Technology Research Group at UFPel, under the advising of professors Luciano Volcan Agostini (Technological Development Center) and Daniel Munari Palomino (Center for Engineering).

Edital Programa Tutorial Integrado Voluntário para Internacionalização

INSCRIÇÕES

As inscrições e seleção dos candidatos serão realizadas diretamente na CRInter no período de 24 de julho a 07 de agosto conforme cronograma disposto neste edital. A entrega de documentos para inscrição deverá ser feita na CRInter (Rua Lobo da Costa, 447), de segunda a sexta-feira, das 8h às 20h.

REQUISITOS PARA INSCRIÇÃO

Para participar da seleção, o aluno deverá:

a) Estar regularmente matriculado em um curso de graduação da Universidade Federal de Pelotas;

b) Ter no mínimo 3 (três) aprovações no semestre anterior ao da inscrição;

c) Ter média geral no histórico escolar igual ou superior a 7,0 (sete);

d) Ter conhecimento em língua inglesa e/ou língua espanhola (aptidão a ser verificada mediante entrevista presencial);

e) Ter disponível o turno da tarde das quintas-feiras para as atividades presenciais.

UFPel Undergraduate Program in Hotel Management held the 3rd International Meeting on Hotel, Gastronomic and Tourism Management, which was attended by Brazilian and Uruguayan professionals. The event comprised lectures in the area of hospitality, the progress of tourism in Uruguay as well as the evolution of hospitality in Brazil, among other topics.

Edital de bolsas para mobilidade internacional: Programa Santander e convênios bilaterais

A CRInter divulga hoje o seu edital de bolsas para a mobilidade internacional no Programa Ibero-Americanas do Santander Universidades.

O presente edital contempla 8 (oito) vagas: 5 (cinco) para o Programa Santander, 2 (duas) para o Instituto Politécnico de Bragança – Portugal e 1 (uma) para a Universidad de Ciencias Aplicadas y Ambientales – Colômbia.

As inscrições poderão ser feitas na CRInter, no prazo de 17 de julho a 03 de agosto de 2018, das 8h às 20h.

[ENG] UFPel trains faculties in English as means of instruction

Last June, The Vice Presidency Office for Personal Management and the International Office at UFPel held a training workshop on English as a Medium of Instruction, seeking to teach graduate professors how to use English as a content teaching tool, similarly as it has been done in the countries where English is not the official language. Along the meetings, methods and techniques about how to apply this approach as well as its advantages and how to use it were addressed. Professors Leandro Tessler, from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), and Simone Sarmento, from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), were in charge of delivering the course and practicing life like activities and exercises, regardless of participants’ field of expertise. The aim of this course was to expand the internationalization of the university through the training of staff, hopefully resulting in concurrent benefits both to UFPel and international students.

[ENG] UFPEL Rocket Team participates in rocket launch competition in New Mexico

Students from several UFPel programs and members of the Rocket Team belonging to the institution Center for Engineering participated in the Spaceport America Cup 2018, a rocket launch competition that took place in the state of New Mexico in the United States. The event featured competitors from around the world, including two other teams from Brazilian universities. The UFPel team built the entire rocket system, such as the propulsion, electronic and structural systems, which required, in addition to handling financial limitations, a well-designed and solid theoretical project.
