The Graduate Program in Philosophy (PPGFIL) has been operating since its creation in the building of the Campus of Human and Social Sciences (CCHS), located at Rua Alberto Rosa, 154. This building houses the Institute of Philosophy, Sociology, Politics, and International Relations (IFISP), the Faculty of Education (FAE), and the Institute of Human Sciences (ICH).
PPGFIL activities take place, in part, within IFISP, which has 12 classrooms, 18 rooms divided between professors’ offices and laboratories, and a computer lab for Graduate Studies, in addition to other rooms for undergraduate and extension activities. In these rooms, Master’s and Doctoral classes, Qualification Exams, Research Groups, Dissertation and Thesis defenses, Short Courses, Conferences, Collegiate meetings, and other Graduate-related activities are held. The PPGFIL also has Room 212 for the Distance Learning Philosophy Undergraduate Program (EAD), which is equipped for web conferencing and holds online thesis defenses.
The Graduate Program in Philosophy at UFPel also participates in the Center for Graduate Studies in Human, Social, and Applied Sciences (CEHUS), located at Rua Alberto Rosa, 117. Inaugurated in June 2018, CEHUS includes an auditorium (with 110 seats), 2 mini-auditoriums/Defense Rooms (each with 40 seats), and 13 classrooms for lectures, research, and study groups, as well as the Social Sciences Library. Since 2019, PPGFIL has been conducting Thesis and Dissertation defenses, Study Groups, Conferences, Short Courses, and other Graduate activities at CEHUS.
The Social Sciences Library at UFPel houses most of the philosophical bibliographic collection (philosophical works can also be found in the Library of the Faculty of Law and the Library of the Porto Campus).
The PPGFIL secretariat is located in Room 209 of CCHS, as part of the Shared Secretariat for Stricto Sensu Graduate Programs, alongside the secretariats of the Graduate Program in Political Science (PPGCPol) and the Graduate Program in Sociology (PPGS). The room is equipped with computers, chairs, and other accessories for three secretaries, as well as for meetings with Coordinators of the Graduate Programs.
For International Congresses, conferences, and other activities with a large number of participants, PPGFIL also receives support from other UFPel units and holds its activities in places such as the Auditorium of the UFPel Faculty of Law, the building of the Mercosur Integration Center, and other historical buildings owned by the city and UFPel.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that the buildings of CCHS, CEHUS, and part of the UFPel Center for Arts were unified with the inauguration, on June 12, 2023, of “Largo do Bola.” This is a leisure and social space for interaction between students and professors from various courses and Graduate Programs at UFPel.
