Research Laboratory in Biochemical Pharmacology (LaFarBio)
The Laboratory of Research in Biochemical Pharmacology (LaFarBio) is located in the Chemistry, Pharmaceutical and Food Sciences Center (CCQFA), Building 30, Room 205 (Capão do Leão Campus, UFPel) and is coordinated by Professors Cristiane Luchese and Ethel Antunes Wilhelm. The research developed in this laboratory involves pharmacological evaluations of bioactive molecules, aiming the development of new therapeutic alternatives for the treatment of cognitive damage, pain and inflammation. In addition, it also studies the pharmacological bases of therapeutics, as well as their implications for the understanding of the mechanisms of action of the drugs and for the development of new drugs.
Infrastructure and Equipment: The laboratory is equipped with glassware and other common laboratory supports such as refrigerator and stove. The equipment necessary for the development of the research present in these laboratories is: tube agitators, benchtop centrifuge, pH meter, water bath and spectrophotometer. For conducting the behavioral tests there is the presence of the following equipment: open field, light-dark box, high cross labyrinth and hot-plate. There is equipment such as the ice machine, spectrofluorimeter, microscopes, refrigerated eppendorf centrifuge and milli-Q water systems, which are used by and are part of the Center for Biotechnology, Chemistry and Pharmacy courses of the CCQFA. In addition to the laboratory space, there is also a study room, a room for behavioral tests and another for cell culture tests.
