2019

– Lecture entitled “Use of microwave-initiated combustion for subsequent elementary determination in different matrices”, given to the Graduate Program in Chemical Engineering at FURG, on May 16, 2019 – Priscila Tessmer Scaglioni ;

– PPGBBio doctoral student, Fernanda Cardoso Teixeira, was one of the winners of the competition “MT-Your thesis in three minutes”, with the work entitled “Effects of inosine treatment on behavioral and biochemical parameters in in vitro and in vivo experimental models for Alzheimer’s disease”. The event was organized by the Dean of Research, Graduate Studies and Innovation (PRPPGI) at UFPel in 2019, Pelotas, RS, Brazil.

– The work presented by student Guilherme Teixeira Voss, entitled “Effect of biomaterials containing hydrocortisone in a model of atopic dermatitis in mice”, was selected as a highlight in his session at the XXI Graduate Meeting of the 5th Integrated Week of Innovation, Teaching , Research and Extension, held at UFPel in 2019, Pelotas, RS, Brazil.

– The work presented by student Fernanda Cardoso Teixeira, entitled “Inosine protects against memory deficits and oxidative damage in hippocampus induced by experimental model of Alzheimer’s disease”, received an honorable mention at the IX Brazilian Purine Clube Meeting, held at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in 2019 , Florianópolis, SC, Brazil.

– The work presented by student Nathalia Stark Pedra, entitled “SCH-642305 produced by endophytic fungus of Achryrocline satureoides inhibits cell proliferation and migration of cell lineage of glioblastoma multiforme”, was selected as a highlight in her session at the XXI Graduate Meeting, of the 5th Integrated Week of Innovation, Teaching, Research and Extension, held at UFPel in 2019, Pelotas, RS, Brazil.

– The work presented by the student Fernanda Cardoso Teixeira, entitled “Effect of inosine treatment on memory deficit and BDNF levels in a STZ-induced sporadic dementia models in rats”, was selected as a highlight in her session at the IV Meeting of PPG Biosciences of the Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre in 2019, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil.

– The work supervised by professor Márcia Mesko, entitled “Gender inclusion in the exact sciences through the teaching of chemistry for 9th grade students”, was selected as a highlight in her session at the VI Congress of Extension and Culture, of the 5th Integrated Innovation Week , Teaching, Research and Extension, held at UFPel in 2019, Pelotas, RS, Brazil.

– The work guided by Professor Francieli Stefanello, entitled “Selective cytotoxic effect of gallic acid on rat glioblastoma multiforme strain”, was selected as a highlight in her session at the XXVIII Scientific Initiation Congress, of the 5th Integrated Week of Innovation, Teaching, Research and Extension, held at UFPel in 2019, Pelotas, RS, Brazil.

– Professors Ethel Wilhelm and Lucielli Savegnago participated in the roundtable entitled “Science is also for Women”, at the VII Symposium on Biotechnology: Integration between Undergraduate and Graduate Studies”, held at UFPel in 2019, Pelotas, RS, Brazil.

2017 to 2018

– Professor Tiago Veiras Collares was an affiliated member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) on August 14, 2018 during the Symposium and Diploma of New Affiliated Members of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, held at the UFRGS Council Room, Porto Alegre , LOL.

– Doctoral student Juliana Leitzke Santos de Souza was selected to participate in the Les Doctoriales 2018 Seminar Program, which took place from November 22nd to 23rd, 2018, at Fábrica do Futuro, Porto Alegre, RS.

– Student Fernanda C. Teixeira’s work entitled “CD73-siRNA loaded cationic nanoemulsion exhibits in vitro antiglioma activity” received the João José Freitas Sarkis award as one of the best works presented at the Purines 2018 International event, in Foz do Iguaçu, PR, Brazil .

– The research group coordinated by Prof. Rosélia Spanevello received an honorable mention for her work “Effect of the administration of blueberry extract on the activity of the enzyme Na K ATPase in brain structures of rats submitted to an experimental model of mania” during the XII Regional Meeting of Fesbe 2018, Rio Grande, RS.

– The research group coordinated by Prof. Rosélia Spanevello received an honorable mention for her work “”Effect of treatment with blueberry extract on glioblastoma lineage cell viability and proliferation”, during the II Oncology Congress in Pelotas, Pelotas, RS.

– Professor Ethel Antunes Wilhelm was awarded the “For Women in Science” award, given by L’Oréal Brasil in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) in Brazil and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC). The award ceremony took place on October 4th at L’Oréal’s headquarters, Rio de Janeiro, RJ.

– Professor Márcia Foster Mesko was awarded the JAAS Emerging Investigator Lectureship award, which recognizes the work of young researchers from around the world. The distinction is granted by the Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectometry of the Royal Society of Chemistry and was the first time that this award has been granted to a scientist from Latin America.

– A scientific article by the group coordinated by Professor Márcia Foster Mesko was selected by the Royal Society of Chemistry to be published in the thematic collection “Celebrating Excellence in Research: 100 Women of Chemistry, which celebrates excellence in research and highlights 100 Women of Chemistry in the context worldwide”.

– The work “Bromine and Iodine Determination in Different Vegetables by ICP-MS after Decomposition by Microwave-induced Combustion” developed by the group of professor Márcia Foster Mesko, was awarded as the best panel presented at the Food and Beverage Session, of the 41st RASBQ, of the Brazilian Society of Chemistry, Foz do Iguaçu, PR.

– The work “Challenges in the Development of an Accurate Analytical Method for Iodine Determination in Human Hair”, developed by the group of professor Márcia Foster Mesko, was selected as one of the best works presented at the 2nd Workshop on Biochemistry and Bioprospecting at the Federal University of Pelotas , Pellets, RS.

– Professor Márcia Foster Mesko was elected director of the Analytical Chemistry Division of the Brazilian Chemical Society – SBQ (05/2018 to 05/2020).

– Professor Elizandra Braganhol gave the lecture entitled “CD73 as a target for gliobastoma teraphy” during Purines 2018 International, in Foz do Iguaçu, PR, Brazil.

– Professor Tiago Veiras Collares gave a lecture entitled “Preclinical trials in cancer: research and development of robust biological models and alternative screening methods” during the Symposium and Diploma of New Affiliated Members of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, held in the Sala of the Councils of UFRGS, Porto Alegre, RS.

– Professor Ethel Antunes Wilhelm gave the lecture entitled “Preclinical study of selenium-containing quinolines: advances and perspectives” during the VII Meeting on Sulfur, Selenium and Tellurium (ESSeTe) and 7th WSeS – Redox and Catalysis, held at the Itaimbé Palace Hotel, Santa Maria, RS.

– Professor Márcia Foster Mesko gave the lecture entitled “Food Analysis – Challenges in the Determination of Halogens” during the 1st Summer School of the Chemistry Institute of UNESP-Araraquara, held at the Chemistry Institute of UNESP, Araraquara, SP.

– Professor Márcia Foster Mesko participated in the thematic session entitled “Women in Analytical Chemistry: Challenges and Perspectives” during the 19th National Meeting of Analytical Chemistry and 9th Ibero-American Congress of Analytical Chemistry – 19th ENQA/9thCIAQA, Caldas Novas, GO.

– Professor Márcia Foster Mesko gave a lecture entitled “Challenges in the determination of elementary impurities in materials” during the IV Academic Week of Materials Engineering and III Workshop on Materials Science and Engineering, UFPel, Pelotas, RS.

– Professor Márcia Foster Mesko gave a lecture entitled “Essential or toxic chemical elements in foods: Current aspects and evaluation of the influence of cooking processes” during the Nutrition Conference, UFPel, Pelotas, RS.

– Professor Tiago Collares was elected an affiliate member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. The deference given to the professor is aimed at scientists up to 40 years of age, especially research leaders in frontier areas of science. The professor was chosen from the South region and was categorized among the names belonging to the Biomedical Sciences.

– Professor Vinícius Farias Campos was appointed coordinator of Technological Innovation, together with the Dean of Research, Graduate Studies and Innovation at UFPel.

– Professor Ethel Antunes Wilhelm gave the lecture entitled “Preclinical study of quinolinic compounds” at the Academic Week of the Pharmacy Course, Catholic University of Pelotas, Pelotas, RS. 2017.

– Professor Cristiani Folharini Bortolatto gave the lecture entitled “Assessment of the anorectic and anti-obesity action of synthetic compounds” in the seminar subject at PPGBBio, Pelotas, RS. 2017.
