What is the difference between a master’s degree and a specialization?
The master’s degree is an advanced program, in other words, the focus is on student training in the scientific and academic areas. The specialization is an initial program in which the focus is on professional updating or improvement. The master’s degree provides a diploma, and the specialization provides a certificate.
Can I take a master’s degree and work at the same time?
We discourage this strategy. Unlike specialization programs, a master’s degree requires full dedication for its full use. We recommend all working candidates to request work leave to take the program.
But I have already done a specialization while working and I have gone well…
In a specialization program, in general, much of the student’s growth is accomplished in classroom work; a small part remains to be carried out outside the classroom, as the student that studies and works has limited time for extra
activities.
In the master’s degree it is the opposite. The growth of the student, in general, takes place outside the classroom. It occurs in the performance of the thesis, in the reading of complementary texts of each course, in the study groups, in the seminars you must prepare and present, and even in your individual reflections. The classroom time should focus on discussions, seminars, sharing of discoveries, debates, the student’s critical and analytical skills expansion. That
presupposes time for dedication, reading, and a lot of study.
