Last July 2018, during the 70th Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science (SBPC) held in Maceio, Brazil, undergrad Cumputing Engineering student Iago Storch received the 15th Distinction Award of Introduction to Scientific and Technological Research given by the National Council for Scientifc and Technological Development (category: “Science Intern, CNPq Fellowship Program”; area: Natural Sciences and Engineering). It is the first time that a UFPel student wins such an award in the history of the prize. The student’s work awarded was entitled “Dynamic Tile Partitioning Technique Aiming the Speedup Enhancement of the Video Coding Process According to the HEVC Standard.” The work was developed within the Video Technology Research Group at UFPel, under the advising of professors Luciano Volcan Agostini (Technological Development Center) and Daniel Munari Palomino (Center for Engineering).
