Summary
In 2020, the Graduate Program in Anthropology at the Federal University of Pelotas signed an international agreement with the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona, Spain, under the coordination of Prof. Rafael Guedes Milheira (UFPel) and Prof. Andre Carlo Colonese (UAB). The agreement will be the basis for studies in the area of archeology and long-term history of the fishing populations of the southern coast of Brazil, promoting the mobility of students and teachers between both Universities, the search for resources for regional archaeological research and the extraversion of knowledge in Large scale. The agreement is part of the projects developed by the Laboratory of Teaching and Research in Anthropology and Archeology (LEPAARQ-UFPEL) and the ERC Project (Long-term coastal adaptation, food security and poverty alleviation in Latin America), which investigates historical ecology subsistence fishing throughout the Atlantic Forest, testing the hypothesis that fishing played a significant role during agricultural expansion in pre-colonial times, during the historic colonization and urbanization of this region, and that this long historical process still echoes in the current artisanal fisheries.
