PPGFís/UFPel awarded two Master’s and two PhD scholarships for international students through PEC-PG

The Graduate Program in Physics (PPGFís/UFPel) has been awarded two full Master’s scholarships and two full PhD scholarships for international candidates under CAPES/MEC’s Graduate Program for Students from Partner Countries (PEC-PG). CAPES has published the list of available positions at participating institutions and opened the application period under Call No. 12/2025.

Timeline (Full Master’s and Full PhD):

  • Applications: August 14 to September 29, 2025, via Sicapes.

  • Final results (estimated by CAPES): by November 14, 2025.

  • Start of activities: first semester of 2026.

Who can apply:

International candidates who are nationals of countries participating in the program and residents of those countries, who do not hold Brazilian nationality, dual Brazilian nationality, or the right to Brazilian nationality.
According to CAPES PEC-PG Call No. 12/2025, nationals of the following countries may apply (grouped by region):

  • Africa (29): South Africa, Angola, Algeria, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Kenya, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, and Zambia.

  • Latin America and the Caribbean (28): Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

  • Asia (10): Bangladesh, China, South Korea, India, Iran, Lebanon, Pakistan, Syria, Thailand, and Timor-Leste.

  • Europe (7): Armenia, Bulgaria, France, Hungary, North Macedonia, Poland, and Turkey.

Note: The list may be updated by Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) until the end of the application period; the current version is available in the call and on the referenced MRE webpage.

  • Duration: up to 24 months (Master’s) or 48 months (full PhD).

  • Benefits include a monthly stipend, health-insurance support, and an international airfare allowance.
