Convite Young Talent in Analytical Chemistry Award Ceremony and 12th BrJAC Webinar

Divulgamos a Young Talent in Analytical Chemistry Award Ceremony and 12th BrJAC Webinar. Nesta cerimônia de premiação, a professora do PPGBBio, Márcia Foster Mesko, Prêmio Jovem Talento em Química Analítica 2021, apresentará no dia 26 de novembro 2021, a partir das 14h, o webinar intitulado Advances for the Elemental Determination by Mass Spectrometry Detection Following the Green Chemistry Recommendation.

Abstract: The determination of non-metals, especially halogens, has been performed to provide information about the influence of these elements in several fields, such as nutrition, health, and toxicology. Despite of the technological developments in instrumentation, samples are generally introduced in the equipment as a solution. Still today, classical methods are routinely used for sample digestion and involve the use of a relatively high volume of concentrated reagents and take a long time for digestion. Regarding to halogen determination, they can be lost in their unstable volatile compounds in acid medium. Nowadays, there is a trend for the development of green analytical methods, which require lower reagent consumption and waste generation, less analytical steps combined with high-efficiency digestion. The suitability of the digests with the determination techniques is also important. On this aspect, the main advances for sample preparation for a variety of matrices will be presented in this lecture for further non-metal determination by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometric and ion chromatography with mass spectrometry detection. The use of diluted solutions and combustion systems will be covered, and recent developments will be presented.

Biography: Dr. Mesko is a full professor at Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel), and an affiliate member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and a titular member of the Brazilian Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences. She has received several national and international awards, including the “L’Oréal Brazil – For Woman in Science” from L’Oréal, Brazilian Academy of Science and UNESCO 2012, JAAS-2018 Emerging Investigator Lectureship, and the “Periodic Table of Younger Chemists” to represent the element “Bromine” for celebrating 100 years of IUPAC and the International Year of Periodic Table (2019). She was the Director of Analytical Chemistry Division of Brazilian Chemical Society. She is editorial board member of the Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry. She has presented national and international invited lectures, published more than 100 peer reviewed international papers, patents and book chapters in these fields. She has experience in the development of methods for food, pharmaceutical, and biological analysis using ion chromatography and atomic spectrometry techniques.
