Digital and Embedded Systems

The Digital and Embedded Systems Research Line studies the conception and design of complex computational systems. Research focuses on the specification, validation, verification, design and testing of these digital and embedded systems. One of the main objectives of this line of research is to investigate the design of computer systems dedicated to specific applications, involving hardware and software. In this context, it is of special interest for this line of research to explore the project space, involving software and hardware, in the search for optimized solutions considering various commitments, such as processing rate, energy consumption, hardware consumption, amongst others.

Thus, topics such as the design of dedicated digital systems and the exploration of different architectural models, including reconfigurable hardware architectures, are the focus of investigation, as well as the embedded software project (application, middleware and embedded operating system). The line also focuses on investigating new design algorithms and methodologies and developing CAD tools. A current point of convergence among researchers in the research line is related to the development of software (GINGA middleware) and hardware (video encoding) for the Brazilian Digital TV System (SBTVD).
