Course Proposal

The Bachelor Degree in Computer Science is linked to the Center for Technological Development of UFPel. Created in 1992, it began its activities with the name of Bachelor of Computer Science in 1994, having received the current name in 2001. The course was recognized by the MEC, according to Ordinance 2159, of December 22, 2000. At the end of 2007, The course was evaluated by MEC / INEP and received grade 4 (out of a maximum of 5).

Goals
The objective of the course is to prepare higher level professionals able to use the modern technologies of the area of ​​informatics and to interact with other areas to acquire orientation about the best application of these technologies. Besides to providing students with a strong scientific base, which enables them to continue advanced studies at the postgraduate level, it also aims to realistically prepare them for the regional and national job market.

Minimum: 8 Semesters;
Normal: 10 Semesters.

Profile
The professional graduated from the Bachelor Degree in Computer Science at UFPel will be able to contribute to the evolution of scientific and technological knowledge, always guided by the ethical principles that govern society and, more specifically, the area of ​​computing. The activities of the trained professional include: (a) research and development of theoretical knowledge in the area of ​​computing; (b) the analysis and modeling of problems from the computational point of view; and (c) the design and implementation of computer systems.

Thus, it is expected that the graduates, according to the specific training chosen, have the following skills and abilities:

Have a solid theoretical base, which allows the understanding of the main concepts of computer science and assimilate new technologies, keeping up to date with the technological evolution of the area and applying them in solving problems, whether related to the fundamentals or computing applications;
Participate in the development of new technologies, using different sources of information and varied technological resources;
Contribute to research projects for the construction of new scientific knowledge, always evaluating their impacts on society;
Apply your knowledge independently and innovatively, following the evolution of the area;
Being an entrepreneur, enabling the generation of new initiatives that promote individual and collective development in the community in which they live;
To be able to design and implement complex computer systems using knowledge gained from the Course and through the necessary continuous professional updating;
To be able to model and specify real world problems using methods and techniques studied in the Course;
Respect the ethical principles of computing;
Work individually and in teams to solve computational problems of any kind;
To be aware and prepared to deal with the human and ethical dimensions of knowledge and social relations.
