- Seeds in Focus: from science to production
With the aim of improving topics of interest to the national and international community, the faculty members of the PPGCTS organized another edition of “Seeds in Focus: From Science to Production” on the YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/@ppgemctdesementes-ufpel9396. The following lectures took place:
Rethinking Breeding Programs for the Future: The Case of LSU Rice
Speaker: Roberto Fritsche-Neto, Agronomist with a degree from the Federal University of Pelotas, Master in Plant Genetics and Breeding from the University of São Paulo (USP), and PhD in Genetics and Breeding from the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV).
He is currently an Assistant Professor of Quantitative Genetics / Breeding based on prediction at LSU AgCenter.

Speaker: Ana Laura Pereira, Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Agronomy at the University of the Republic (Uruguay), Master’s (2005) and PhD (2011) in Seed Science and Technology from the Federal University of Pelotas.
She joined INIA as a researcher in 2007 in the field of seeds, being responsible for the Seed Unit at INIA Treinta y Tres, where basic rice seeds and some forage species are produced.
She is also responsible for research in seed quality and the production of seeds with and without irrigation. She supervises theses for students and a postgraduate course in seeds at the University of the Republic (Uruguay).

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Graduate Program in Seed Science and Technology, Professor Dr. Silmar Peske, who taught for over 40 years at the Federal University of Pelotas, holds a Master’s and PhD in Seeds from Mississippi State University, and is the director of SeedNews, will share a bit about the history of the Seed PPG, due to his extensive experience, experiences, and stories within the program.

Professors Tiago Zanatta Aumonde and Tiago Pedó visited the event, accompanied by the person in charge of NATE, Agronomist Alessandro Saucedo Rubim, who is a PhD student in the PPGCTS program.
- Field Day at Canoa Mirim

Professor Tiago Pedó participated and represented both the PPGCTS and FAEM itself. It was an honor to represent this century-old institution of teaching, research, and extension.
