Miguel Cañas presents “Creative Culture” at FAUrb

On Wednesday, November 16, LabCom Café made a collaboration with FAUrb’s 50th anniversary celebrations, promoting the lecture “Creative Culture” given by the Master in Architecture and Urbanism Miguel Cañas Martins (instagram). Starting the event at 5 pm with a presentation of live music in the lobby, in addition to popcorn and coffee, the audience fraternized until 6 pm when Miguel began his speech.

With a lot of positivity, Cañas brought new philosophies to present his way of seeing life and his work. By a wonderful coincidence, on this date exactly 20 years ago, Miguel attended his UFPel graduation ceremony. The very excited audience also included his parents and many former classmates, as well as teachers who remain lecturing at FAUrb since those old days.

His Metroquadrado office (instagram) is currently based in Joinville (SC) and encompasses a wide range of projects and objectives, functioning as a mother cell. Now or then one of his projects grows so much that it ends up becoming an independent cell, albeit connected to its origin. ATLAS unites the areas of Design and Architecture in search of discovery, consultancy and design of new products, projects and experiences. In terms of sustainability, which is very strong for Canas, today there is work with Refugio Criativo (instagram) and Fenda (instagram), focused on propositions of immersion experiences, Ni Shunpin (instagram), translated as Floresta Limpa, is the platform on sustainability discussions involving the Huni Kuin People, and finally the Y A K Ã Institute (instagram) which articulates discussions about a new world, idealized colorful and abundant for all.

The main idea of his speech is that we are all creative people and we use different processes in our productions. However, to evolve collectively, it is necessary to let go of the idea of the genius author, based on the individual ego. By getting in touch with our intuition and demystifying the idea of being born with a gift, we explore a vast new field of ideas. One of Cañas’ approaches has been to carry out creative immersions, with the intention that participants connect with nature and new contexts, collectively embarking on creative challenges. They function as spiritual refuges where the state of vulnerability connects those who are there.

Furthermore, we are all invited by Miguel to embrace what is different and pursue the unknown. Only through these mysterious paths will we discover unimaginable wonders, which not even in our wildest dreams could we conceive. Contact with the Huni Kuin People taught, among many things, that the perception of “self” and “us” is not solid and unique, but fluid and multiple. Taking a few steps back may finally allow us to broaden the horizon. Deconstruct to build and unlearn to learn.
