New activities on the network.
The Brazilian Network of Geographical Studies on Commerce and Consumption, ReBECCa, is launching an activity to stimulate participation in the network, they are the Geographical Tertúlias. In contemporary times, the relationship between city, commerce, consumption and culture is increasingly accentuated in view of the solidity that consumer society assumes in the context of social reproduction. In view of this reality, understanding the dynamics of the city in the face of the growth of commercial activity and services is necessary, since it is an important factor for the unveiling of the processes that make the production of space and, therefore, the reproduction of society viable.
In this sense, ReBECCa will promote during the year 2022, from 05/31 to 11/27, a series of online lectures that will give substance and meaning to the GEOGRAPHIC TALKS project: TRADE, CONSUMPTION AND CULTURE IN CITIES. Thus, the theme discussed in the 1st seminar on Commerce, consumption and cultures in the city, promoted by the UFCG’s Geography department, is resumed, being, therefore, guiding the discussions and events promoted by ReBECCa throughout its performance.
The lectures will be given by ReBECCa participants and will target undergraduate and graduate students, professors and others interested in the proposed theme, because GEOGRAPHIC TALKS: TRADE, CONSUMPTION AND CULTURE IN CITIES is an interdisciplinary theme, that contemplates several dimensions of academic knowledge and also of everyday life.
The expectation is that at each lecture we can contribute with important reflections for the Geography of Commerce and also for the construction of a reflection on daily practices that the theme contemplates, as is the case of consumption
The main objective of the proposal is to provide a forum for debates whose central theme is the relationship between the city, commerce, consumption and culture, with a view to apprehending the dynamics of the city as a result of social practices and economic activities that foster the production of social space.
