The Structural Genomics Laboratory brings together a multidisciplinary team of approximately 25 researchers, students and collaborators dedicated to advancing knowledge in genomics, epigenomics and biotechnology. Our group integrates expertise in molecular biology, bioinformatics and translational research, fostering an interdisciplinary environment where fundamental discoveries are connected to real-world applications.
The laboratory includes professionals at different stages of their academic and scientific careers, including senior researchers, postdoctoral fellows, doctoral and master’s students, as well as undergraduate researchers from diverse academic backgrounds. Our members are affiliated with several graduate programs at the Federal University of Pelotas, including the Graduate Programs in Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Bioprospecting, and Veterinary.
Research activities in the laboratory span multiple areas of modern genomics, including human health genomics, environmental genomics, gene editing technologies and functional genomics. In addition, the laboratory develops genomic approaches for animal genetic improvement, integrating molecular markers, epigenetic regulation and genome-based strategies to support sustainable and innovative livestock production.
Our team also includes undergraduate students from different academic programs who participate in research projects and receive early training in molecular biology, genomics and bioinformatics. The laboratory maintains a strong commitment to international collaboration and regularly hosts international master’s and doctoral students, contributing to a diverse, multicultural and globally connected research environment.
Members of the laboratory are also actively involved in collaborative research projects with industry partners, contributing to the development of innovative biotechnological solutions, applied genomic technologies and technology transfer initiatives. These partnerships strengthen the connection between academic research and real-world challenges, promoting the translation of scientific discoveries into practical applications.
Together, our members form a dynamic scientific community committed to excellence in research, innovation and the development of genomic technologies with impact in human health, environmental monitoring and biotechnology.
