Vinicius Farias Campos

Vinicius Farias Campos is a professor at the Federal University of Pelotas and head of the Structural Genomics Laboratory. His research focuses on genomics, epigenomics and biotechnology innovation.

Enthusiastic biotechnology and innovation professional, currently serving as a professor at the Center for Technological Development (CDTec) of the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel). He teaches in the undergraduate and graduate programs in Biotechnology and in the Graduate Program in Biochemistry and Bioprospecting. He actively promotes research in genomics and biotechnology as founder and principal investigator of the Structural Genomics Laboratory at UFPel.

He has worked tirelessly to strengthen the relationship between the university and society, serving as a leader in the innovation area at UFPel for the past nine years, and currently holds the position of Superintendent of Innovation and Interinstitutional Development at the university.

As an innovation manager, he also serves as President of the Pelotas Technology Park, Director of the National Forum of Innovation and Technology Transfer Managers (FORTEC), and President of the Southern Biotechnology Network (Rede SulBiotec).

He has been a CNPq Productivity Fellow in Technological Development and Innovative Extension since 2014, demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing technological innovation.

He has received the CAPES Thesis Award twice (2012 and 2021), highlighting his dedication to both scientific research and academic mentorship.

He served as Coordinator of the MAI/DAI-CNPq Program at UFPel from 2018 to 2025, leading innovation-oriented academic–industry collaboration projects.

He has extensive experience in securing funding for research, development, and innovation projects, working with agencies such as CNPq, FAPERGS, CAPES, FINEP, and SEBRAE, among others.

He also serves as a consultant to the Brazilian Ministry of Education in the area of innovation, an Associate Editor of the journal Animal Biotechnology, and an ad hoc reviewer for several research and innovation funding agencies in Brazil and abroad.

He was elected Affiliated Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) for the 2022–2026 term.

In 2022, he received the “O Futuro da Terra” Award (Innovation and Rural Technology Category) from FAPERGS and Jornal do Comércio.
