The UFPel

Located in the south of Rio Grande do Sul, in the city of Pelotas, 250 km from Porto Alegre, capital of the state, UFPel was created from the transformation of the Federal Rural University of Rio Grande do Sul (composed of the centennial Faculty of Agronomy Eliseu Maciel, Faculty of Veterinary and Faculty of Domestic Sciences) and the annexation of the Faculties of Law and Dentistry, until then linked to the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul.

UFPel – Campus Porto

In the development process of the Federal University of Pelotas, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Nursing were also relevant, since both gave rise to the entire structure of the health area at UFPel. This structure, which, through the outpatient clinics of the Faculty of Medicine and the University School Hospital, contributes to this day, decisively, for the health of Pelotas and neighboring cities, given the large number of visits to SUS patients.

Currently, the University has 5 campuses: Capão do Leão Campus, Palma Campus, Health Campus, Social Sciences Campus and Porto Campus, where the Rectory and other administrative units are located. Several dispersed units are also part of UFPel’s current structure. Among them are the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Law, the Legal Aid Service, the Music Conservatory, the Arts Center (CA), the Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Food Sciences Center (CCQFA), the Center for Technological Development (CDTEc), the Engineering Center (CEng), the Higher School of Physical Education (ESEF), the Open and Distance Education Center (CEAD), the Leopoldo Gotuzzo Art Museum (MALG), the Science Museum Carlos Ritter and the Lagoa Mirim Development Agency (ALM).

In addition to the campuses, the University also has the following areas under control: São Gonçalo Canal Lock Dam, with 29 ha and 8,762.25 m2 of built area (six buildings), installed in the municipality of Capão do Leão, Irrigation Dam of Arroio Chasqueiro, with 1,915 ha and 835.84 m2 of built area (five buildings), located in the municipality of Arroio Grande, with the weather stations of Santa Vitória do Palmar and Santa Isabel, respectively with 96.42 m2 and 59.48 m2 of built area.
