ABOUT THE JOURNAL

CADERNO DE LETRAS – ABOUT THE JOURNAL

The Journal Caderno de Letras was established in 1982, even before the creation of the undergraduate Letters Program, in 1984. It was a result of the effort of professors and researchers from the Departamento de Letras of the Instituto de Letras e Artes of Universidade Federal de Pelotas. Over the years, Caderno de Letras established itself as an important venue for the exchange of experiences and for academic debate among researchers at the Universidade Federal de Pelotas and other national and international institutions.

Sustaining the journal for all these years has required great effort from all of those involved (editing committees, commissions, referees, authors, reviewers, graphic designers and editors), especially to those involved in updating the journal so that it would always meet the evaluation criteria in place. The image on the cover of the issues relates to this idea of openness to debate and renewal: Paul Klee’s painting Open Book, dating from 1930. This vision has always driven the dialogue proposed by the journal, whose editorial policy is to ensure that the journal becomes a vehicle for a diversity of studies and discussions in the field of linguistic and literary studies.

Caderno de Letras became an annual publication in 2003. Since 2012, it has been published every semester, with one issue dedicated to linguistic studies (first semester) and the other to literary studies (second semester). A call for papers for each issue is announced on the journal website (cadernodeletras.ufpel.edu.br), on social networks, on institution websites and at events related to the themes of interest. Since 2014, the journal has been made available electronically, and all previous issues can be accessed online.

Besides having calls for papers on specific themes, the journal welcomes at all times submissions of articles that may published in regular or special issues. The journal also has channels of communication for those who wish to ask questions or contact reviewers and collaborators.

Currently, Caderno de Letras is published by the Centro de Letras e Comunicação of the Universidade Federal de Pelotas.
