The UFPel Ph.D. in Languages and Literatures is organized as a set of integrated courses. The goal is to provide the student with the improvement of the training they already have, allowing them to develop research studies that will lead to qualified professional activities in Languages and Literatures \u2013 according to the area of concentration and lines of research.<\/p>\n
The syllabus structure of the Ph.D. Program provides a minimum course load of 56 credits \u2013 40 in courses and 16 for the Dissertation, and is distributed as follows:<\/p>\n
I \u2013 compulsory courses, 8 credits;<\/p>\n
II \u2013 optional courses and\/or Special Topics, 32\u00a0credits;<\/p>\n
III \u2013 supervised dissertation: 4 credits.<\/p>\n

Deadline for dissertation defense: 48 months (extendable to 60 months in exceptional cases)<\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Compulsory courses<\/strong> represent the formal and intellective support, essential for developing the dissertation. They comprise basic credits courses of the Ph.D. Program common core, which are considered to be the area of concentration.<\/em><\/p>\n Optional courses<\/strong> aim at training the student in different lines of research of the PhD Program. The Special Topics are configured as optional courses and are not regularly offered.
