O desenvolvimento te\u00f3rico, experimental e tecnol\u00f3gico que ocorreu durante o s\u00e9culo XX permitiu a formula\u00e7\u00e3o da teoria do Modelo Padr\u00e3o da F\u00edsica de Part\u00edculas, a qual descreve em termos de princ\u00edpios \u00fanicos as intera\u00e7\u00f5es eletromagn\u00e9ticas, forte e fraca, e \u00e9 extremamente poderosa e precisa em suas previs\u00f5es. Em particular, sua predi\u00e7\u00e3o da exist\u00eancia de um b\u00f3son escalar que d\u00e1 origem \u00e0 massa de todas as part\u00edculas, foi comprovada pela observa\u00e7\u00e3o do b\u00f3son de Higgs em 2012 no Grande Colisor de Hadrons (Large Hadron Collider \u2013 LHC), o qual \u00e9 atualmente o maior acelerador de part\u00edculas da Terra, com 27 quil\u00f4metros de circunfer\u00eancia, localizado no Centro Europeu de Pesquisas Nucleares (Cern) \u2013 Genebra \u2013 Su\u00ed\u00e7a. Entretanto, o Modelo Padr\u00e3o n\u00e3o pode ser considerado a teoria final, pois v\u00e1rias observa\u00e7\u00f5es ainda permanecem sem justificativa. Por exemplo, a natureza da mat\u00e9ria e energia escura, a qual contribui em 95% para a composi\u00e7\u00e3o do Universo, n\u00e3o \u00e9 conhecida. A busca por uma teoria que contenha o Modelo Padr\u00e3o e que tamb\u00e9m descreva este e outros aspectos da Natureza tem motivado toda uma nova gera\u00e7\u00e3o de cientistas. Espera-se que nesta busca possamos adquirir uma nova vis\u00e3o da Natureza.<\/p>\n<p>A fim de buscar por esta teoria e ampliar nossa compreens\u00e3o da Natureza, 81 pesquisadores de diversas institui\u00e7\u00f5es internacionais, entre eles o Prof. Victor Gon\u00e7alves do IFM\/UFPel, \u00fanico pesquisador brasileiro, propuseram recentemente uma nova estrutura experimental a ser constru\u00edda junto ao LHC denominado Forward Physics Facility (FPF). As colis\u00f5es de alta energia no Grande Colisor de H\u00e1drons produzem uma grande n\u00famero de part\u00edculas ao longo do eixo de colis\u00e3o do feixe, fora da aceita\u00e7\u00e3o dos detectores atualmente instalados no LHC. A proposta Forward Physics Facility (FPF), a ser localizada a v\u00e1rias centenas de metros de dist\u00e2ncia do ponto de intera\u00e7\u00e3o do experimento ATLAS e blindado por concreto e rocha, abrigar\u00e1 um conjunto de experimentos para sondar os processos do Modelo Padr\u00e3o (SM) e buscar f\u00edsica al\u00e9m do Modelo Padr\u00e3o (BSM). Estes resultados tamb\u00e9m ir\u00e3o aumentar o potencial do LHC para descobertas inovadora, as quais definir\u00e3o o caminho a seguir nas d\u00e9cadas vindouras.
