What are Model UNs?

Model United Nations, also known simply as MUN, are academic events in which participants act as delegates, diplomats or journalists representing countries or organizations within the political landscape, aiming to debate and resolve issues assigned to each committee. The project’s purpose is to expose the participants to the diplomatic environment, understanding the operation of the internacional organizations inside the politics and allowing the students to put into practice the various theories within the field of international relations, political science, diplomacy, law and many others.

How do they work?

The participants are divided into delegations, which will represent a Member State in one of the UN committees chosen for the event. During the sessions, the students will be expected to utilize their skills in negotiation, speech, argumentation and critical analysis to communicate the interest and point of view of the represented State. For that, the participants will be encouraged to research cultural, geographical, economical, political and historical aspects of their delegation and the others. At the end, the participants must present resolutions to the issues debated, following the United Nations standards.
