Line of research: Art Education and Aesthetic Education

Project name: The Designer as Author

Reflections on authorship in descriptive writing in diverse discourses about authorial design. The  research project focuses  on conceptual discussions and their  conclusions which are important for conceiving and planning a design. The project is  less focused on providing services and more on possibilities of expression  and authorship . Theory , here, coexists with practice and seeks to provide project design graphic objects that are self -initiating and that rethink, in a combative way,  the neutrality present in the continuing conceptual structure problem /solution while,   at the same time, stimulating the entrepreneurial capacity of participants.

Project name: Ethical-aesthetic-affective implications and challenges of art in continued teacher education

Realization of continued education in  art teaching and care management for teachers in public schools of Pelotas/RS, from a diagnostic survey in 56 schools in urban and rural areas, to survey the demands to be worked on in the course.

Project name: Diagnostic Survey on the situation of art in Pelotas / RS

Survey of working conditions for art teachers in the city, aiming at preparing extension courses to meet the demands raised.

Project name: Experiencing drawing

Research project (which includes extension and educational activities ) for students in the Visual Arts Teaching Course, aiming to increase knowledge about  drawing and methodologies for art education in grades at the elementary level. The project is implemented in public elementary schools in Pelotas.

Project name: Drawing and Comics Center

The project reunites production in teaching, research and extension in the area of drawing,  aiming to increase knowledge, promote student participation in events, disseminate and document existing production in the Centro de Artes/UFPel.

Project name: Pandora’s Box: women artists and women philosophers in the 20th century.

The objective of this project is to conduct a survey on women’s artistic  and philosophical production, evaluating their integration into their society and the context of their era, in the 20th century. This study aims to approximate the contexts of women’s intellectual and artistic production and analyze the reception of their work and how they were considered culturally and historically.

Project name: Contemporary Poetics: reading production, writing production, the production of meaning

The proximity between two procedures forseen by the Greeks, poiesis and techné, is the starting point here for seeking to establish relationships between poetic manifestation and  the executions of techniques and different human expressions. Such poetic expressions are understood here as productions of writing which are ready to be read, ready to be subjected to reading productions, measured by their capacity to produce feelings or not. Thus, the project proposes, at first, a comprehensive critical review of the various approaches, formulations and reflections (the production of meaning) on verbal language and, later, on the different languages articulated with verbal language, with their particular modes of enunciation.

Project Name: Revisiting the ILA / IAD Project.

This project deals with an historical and documental survey of the Institute of Arts and Letters, currently named the Centro de Artes, from its beginnings in 1973, when it  joined the School of Fine Arts until its merger with the Conservatory of Music in 2010.

Project name: The Heroic and the Queen: The history of arquitecture in Jaguarão and Bagé.

The project deals with the survey of the urban and architectural spaces of Bagé and Jaguarão related to the two cities being declared as official sites of cultural heritage by IPHAN (National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage).

Line of Research: Creative processes and poetics of the everyday 

Project name:  Art and Daily Leftovers: Context, reutilization, dialogues and documents of garbage displacement between the private and public space (renovation).

This project aims to problematize, raise questions and visualize daily practices related to production, transformation and displacement of garbage in the private context (the home) and   public space through the development of poetic  procedures that register and reuse garbage  and other  leftover, as well  as encourage dialogue about the process of garbage accumulation and its consequences for environment and urban habitability. The project is associated with the Research Group Displacements, Observances and Contemporary Cartographies  ( CNPq/UFPel ) and the lines of research: Graphic Notations,  dialogues and contextual materials and their  formas e presentation; creative processes and poetics of the everyday; visual poetics.  Information about the Research Group is available in:  http://alicemonsellgaragem.blogspot.com.br/

Project name: Contemporary Non-toxic engraving 

Research project about the use of non-toxic alternatives for engraving   touch on three interrelated questions: ( ) non-toxic metal engraving procedures; (b) technological  innovation, and (c) sustainability , contextualizing the technological innovations in the area of artistic engraving, bearing in mind    methodological and procedural renovation for the auto-sustainability of production systems in this area. The use of non-toxic materials is emphasized, among them acrylic bases,  as alternatives for engraving, especially on metal, because they are  sustainable processes that do not affect the environment and health of the artist.

Project name: Engraving in new bases: the acrylic bases as non-toxic alternatives for metal engraving.

This project verifies the sustainability and workability of alternative processes that use non-toxic methods and materials for making engravings, especially in procedures used in metal engraving. It also relates these procedures to teaching contemporary engraving.

Project name: Displacements Observances and Contemporary Cartographies

This project investigates cartographical production in historical and contemporary art that involves displacements and observances in different contexts; learning about different concepts, methods and vehicles of cartography and their applicability. It investigates the vehicles for presenting cartographies, from Geoscience to contemporary art; promotes meetings with researchers from different areas; walks and observations in public and private spaces in the city  of Pelotas and its surrounding area; creates cartographies by means of different procedures and languages (photography, poetry, drawing, painting, video, engraving, sculpture, music); it inquires about cartographies that arise from life; and develops printed  matter as the  process and the result of investigations.

Project name: Travel and places: anthropological, literary and travel maps

Understanding the concept of travel as a form of representation of reality  (present in diverse socio-cultural fields) circumscribes the limits within which  we proposed  our analyses: which routes can the travel perform itself, as a  category of thought?  The project maps  verbal production in which the category of travel is present, particularly when potentialized  by its relationship to identity  and difference; and, a common framework for analysis is built  that allows, at a later time,  to particularize the objects of  investigation (in their discursive, conceptual and imagetic representational forms), without losing sight of probable regularities that may exist between them.
