O desenvolvimento te\u00f3rico, experimental e tecnol\u00f3gico que ocorreu durante o s\u00e9culo XX permitiu a formula\u00e7\u00e3o da teoria do Modelo Padr\u00e3o da F\u00edsica de Part\u00edculas, a qual descreve em termos de princ\u00edpios \u00fanicos as intera\u00e7\u00f5es eletromagn\u00e9ticas, forte e fraca, e \u00e9 extremamente poderosa e precisa em suas previs\u00f5es. Em particular, sua predi\u00e7\u00e3o da exist\u00eancia de um b\u00f3son escalar que d\u00e1 origem \u00e0 massa de todas as part\u00edculas, foi comprovada pela observa\u00e7\u00e3o do b\u00f3son de Higgs em 2012 no Grande Colisor de Hadrons (Large Hadron Collider \u2013 LHC), o qual \u00e9 atualmente o maior acelerador de part\u00edculas da Terra, com 27 quil\u00f4metros de circunfer\u00eancia, localizado no Centro Europeu de Pesquisas Nucleares (Cern) \u2013 Genebra \u2013 Su\u00ed\u00e7a. Entretanto, o Modelo Padr\u00e3o n\u00e3o pode ser considerado a teoria final, pois v\u00e1rias observa\u00e7\u00f5es ainda permanecem sem justificativa. Por exemplo, a natureza da mat\u00e9ria e energia escura, a qual contribui em 95% para a composi\u00e7\u00e3o do Universo, n\u00e3o \u00e9 conhecida. A busca por uma teoria que contenha o Modelo Padr\u00e3o e que tamb\u00e9m descreva este e outros aspectos da Natureza tem motivado toda uma nova gera\u00e7\u00e3o de cientistas. Espera-se que nesta busca possamos adquirir uma nova vis\u00e3o da Natureza.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\" align=\"justify\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12pt;color: #000000\">A fim de avan\u00e7ar em nossa compreens\u00e3o do Universo, o Cern apresentou no dia 15 de janeiro deste ano o projeto do seu futuro superacelerador, denominado Colisor Circular do Futuro (Future Circular Collider \u2013 FCC), o qual ir\u00e1 suceder o LHC. Tal acelerador ser\u00e1 instalado em um t\u00fanel subterr\u00e2neo de 100 quil\u00f4metros de extens\u00e3o a ser constru\u00eddo na fronteira entre a Su\u00ed\u00e7a e a Fran\u00e7a, e receber\u00e1 um investimento que pode chegar a 30 bilh\u00f5es de euros (cerca de R$ 120 bilh\u00f5es). O projeto \u00e9 descrito em um documento composto por quatro volumes, com um total de mais de mil p\u00e1ginas, no qual s\u00e3o descritos todos os aspectos associados aos objetivos em F\u00edsica, assim como as tecnologias necess\u00e1rias para a sua constru\u00e7\u00e3o, desenvolvimento dos detectores e considera\u00e7\u00f5es relativas \u00e0 engenharia civil s\u00e3o discutidas. Os quatro volumes foram recentemente submetidos \u00e0 publica\u00e7\u00e3o no European Physical Journal C e s\u00e3o frutos do trabalho de 1300 cientistas distribu\u00eddos em 35 pa\u00edses.
