The talk covers topics including crowd simulation, visual perception and the Uncanny Valley, data-driven and AI-based facial animation, and biases related to gender, appearance, and skin tone in virtual humans. By connecting these topics, the presentation addresses the scientific and ethical challenges of developing digital characters that are increasingly realistic, expressive, and inclusive.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Biography<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Soraia Raupp Musse<\/strong> is a Full Professor at the School of Technology of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Brazil, and a CNPq Research Productivity Fellow (Level 1A). She received her B.Sc. in Computer Science from PUCRS (1990), her M.Sc. from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS, 1994), and both her M.Sc. (1997) and Ph.D. (2000) from the \u00c9cole Polytechnique F\u00e9d\u00e9rale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania (2016). Her research focuses on Computer Graphics, particularly Virtual Humans, crowd simulation, visual perception, and computer vision. She has authored more than 220 publications in leading journals and conferences, including <i>Computers &amp; Graphics<\/i>, <i>IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG)<\/i>, <i>Computer Graphics Forum<\/i>, <i>SIGGRAPH<\/i>, and <i>MIG<\/i>, and has co-authored four books published by Springer, including the first book dedicated to Crowd Simulation. She has supervised more than 180 undergraduate, master&#8217;s, doctoral, and postdoctoral researchers and has served on over 140 thesis committees and academic evaluation panels. Her work has received 48 awards, including the Google Research Award (2022), the Santander Science and Innovation Award (2013), and the FINEP Innovation Award (2003). She is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society (JBCS) and has chaired several international scientific conferences while serving on national research and evaluation committees of CNPq and CAPES. In 2024, she received the SBGames Distinguished Researcher Award, and she was invited as a keynote speaker at SIBGRAPI, SVR, and SBGames 2025.
