In this context, new prototype systems have been proposed for capturing, processing, and rendering light fields. Moreover, the recent advent of high-quality consumer Head Mounted Displays (HMD) with positional head tracking, and autostereoscopic light field displays provide novel and compelling opportunities for visualizing light fields in new commercial media applications. In addition, the consumers can already have a glimpse of the light field capturing systems capabilities with the multi-camera smartphones that have been recently launched.
However, systems for light field imaging faces unique challenges due in part to the large volume of data that must be captured, processed, and displayed. Although various efforts have been recently initiated, mainly for still light field images, there are still many open questions for enabling ultra-realistic and interactive light field visual experiences.
This talk will present some of the challenges on light field processing and discuss the recent advances in this field.

Biography

Caroline Conti is currently a Professor with the Department of Information Science and Technology of ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, and a Senior Researcher with Instituto de Telecomunicações, Lisbon, Portugal.
She received the B.S.degree in Electrical Engineering from Universidade de São Paulo (USP), Brazil, in 2010, and the Ph.D. degree in Information Science and Technology from ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, Portugal, in 2017.
Her research interests include immersive visual technologies and image and video processing, including light field processing and coding. She has contributed tens of papers in international journals and conferences in these areas. She has also participated in many national and international research projects related to light field processing and coding, where she has actively collaborated with experts from academia and industry.
She is currently Guest Editor of the Elsevier Signal Processing: Image Communication Journal for the special issue on “Light Field Imaging” and is Topic Editor of the MDPI Journal of Imaging. She has been a member of Organizing Committees of many international conferences and workshops. She also acts as reviewer for various IEEE, EURASIP, and MDPI journals and conferences.
She has also been recognized with many awards/distinctions in national and international conferences and competitions. More significantly, in 2016, she won the 27th edition of the Portuguese IBM Scientific Award, an “award for Outstanding Technical Contribution in Computer Science and related fields” for her contributions on “Efficient Solutions for Light Field Coding”.

Caroline Conti Instituto de Telecomunicações (Portugal) Light Field Processing: Challenges and Solutions Language: English Date: October 29th / 09h15 – 10h30 (UTC-3) Abstract Light field imaging has received great attention recently due to its...

["post-246","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
